By Lee Wedlake, Jr.
This book is not a
"how-to" book in the
sense you can learn
karate from it. It is a
tool for the novice to
find a martial art
system to study as well
as select a school. It
presents an overview of
what to expect from
teachers, your
responsibilities as a
student and what you
will encounter on the
road to earning a black
belt in Kenpo Karate.
For the black belt or
school owner, it reveals
the origins of the "new
traditions" in today's
karate school in
America.
Lee Wedlake is a veteran
school owner, tournament
competitor, author and
sought-after seminar
instructor. He has
taught across the United
States and in Australia,
Denmark, Sweden, England
and Ireland.
Competitively, he was
the first Kenpo stylist
to break into the Top
Ten national rankings in
black belt forms in
1980. Karate Illustrated
magazine's July 1983
issue called him one of
the "eleven prominent
instructors" in the
country. He was
nominated to Inside
Kung-Fu magazine's Kenpo
Intructor of the Year,
was included in the
World Martial Arts Hall
of Fame and nominated
for the President's
Service Award. As a
personal student of
Kenpo master Ed Parker,
Wedlake brings to light
more aspects of the
history, structure and
development of American
Kenpo.
Softcover. 157 pages. |
